End of the School Year Party - CHANGED!!!!

We have been invited to a block part at First Baptist of Walton.  The block part is next Wednesday June 6th.  We originally had an end of the school year party but we are changing it so we can participate in this event with other churches.

The great thing is that not much will change.  The times remain the same.  If you need a ride meet up at Oak Ridge at 5pm.  If you are driving yourself then just meet us up at First Baptist around 6pm.

There will be live music, games, and a message later.

We will be back at church by 9pm.

David Crowder-less Band

If you haven't heard of the David Crowder Band, I guarantee you've heard of one of their songs.  One of their biggest hits "No One Like You" has been sung at summer camps across the U.S.

This past year the band decided to call it quits.  They released one last album - "Give us rest or a requiem".

Soon after the album was released, news broke that members of the original band were making a new band called "The Digital Age".  It is made up of the David Crowder Band, minus David Crowder.

They haven't released an album yet, but here is a video of their latest rehearsal.

Another good reminder...

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?  Romans 8:31-32

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

Prayer Request Time

The next two days will be a big day for one of our youth families.

Tonight Lauren Martin will be graduating from Walton Verona.  Her plan after high school is to attend the University of Kentucky.

Tomorrow her mother, Miss Hasty Martin will be traveling to Africa.  As most of you know Hasty has been involved with a wonderful organization, Operation Christmas Child (OCC).  This ministry gives churches opportunities to reach out to people all throughout the world.  With a simple shoebox full of toys and toiletries, we are able to share Christ's love and the gospel with children that have never received a gift before.

This past year Hasty was invited to help distribute the boxes in Uganda.

Please pray for Hasty, Chad, and Lauren.  Pray for Lauren as she finishes this chapter of her life and starts a new one.  Pray for safety for Hasty as she travels across the seas.  Pray for Chad as he supports his family.  Pray a prayer of thanks that God is sovereign and in control of all of these situations.

Take a few moments everyday to lift this family up in prayer.

For High Schoolers

Here is a list of different tracks you can choose for the High School camp at MFUGE.  We will be staying in New Orleans this year.  Everyone attending camp needs to pick their top three choices. Everyone needs  to pick something that they enjoy doing, but also pick something that is a little challenging.  Each track has its challenges.  I encourage everyone to pick something more social.  Painting, Construction and Yardwork, is a great ministry, but this track is not for mature Christians.  This is usually for students who are not good at sharing their faith, so unless you feel God calling you to this ministry, try not to sign up for this track.

Children’s Ministry
This ministry track involves working with children in a variety of settings including: Vacation Bible Schools,
Backyard Bible Clubs, Day Camps, and other site-specific work with children. The purpose of this track is to minister to children, providing your students with the opportunity to teach and lead children through Bible
stories, games, crafts, and music.
Social Ministry
This ministry track provides students a variety of ministry opportunities for meeting the physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual needs of people. Students in this track my minister in: mentally/physically handicapped
centers, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food banks, clothing closets, furniture distribution centers, refugee
ministries, prison ministries, Baptist Centers, Salvation Army Sites, and other community organizations with
similar purposes. Students will work both directly with people in the community as well as behind the scenes.
Painting, Construction, and Yard Work Ministry
Students in this track will spend their time doing light construction work, roofing, repairing, cleaning, painting, and yard work. These tracks work with various organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and local housing authorities to meet the physical needs of churches, schools, families and individuals.
Creative Ministry
This ministry track uses the gifts and abilities of students to minister through drama, interpretive movement,
puppets, clowning, singing, and other ministry performances. Students in this track will spend their week
traveling to nursing homes, children’s centers, residential homes, beaches, parks, and other places where they will be able to minister creatively.
Games and Recreation Ministry
This ministry track is designed to help students use their athletic ability and willing hearts to share the gospel
through sportsmanship and Christ-like attitudes. These tracks are located in children’s centers or homes,
apartment complexes, and boys and girls clubs.
Peer Ministry
This ministry track is offered in Nashville and New Orleans and is designed to train students to minister to their peers. This track will focus directly on students’ ministering to other students through opportunities of service and building relationships. Throughout the week students may work in a variety of ministry settings, such as foster homes, teen centers, community centers, etc. Students need to have completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade.
Evangelism Ministry
This track is designed to give students an opportunity to share their faith with people in the community. The
track will work in populated areas and will engage people in conversation through handing out refreshments,
organizing activities, playing music, etc. Students may also partner with local churches to pass out flyers and
prayer walk as part of church planting efforts.

For Middle Schoolers

It's time to register for your POI's and fill out your medical release forms for the summer camp at Jonathan Creek - Crossings!

Please visit this website - https://mail.crossingsministries.org/gre/resolution/alreg/2012/index.asp

Click on "New Participant".  Even if you attended camp last year you need to create a new account.

Once you do that, make sure you click "Oak Ridge Baptist", "Covington" and "Kentucky".

Here is an important step.  You will get an student ID.  Please write it down and make sure you have it handy.  You may need to log back in to fill out more information.

Finally, you do NOT have to have your medical release forms notarized this year.  Just as long as there is an adult witness to witness you and your parent signing the form that is all we need.  You CANNOT attend camp without a medical release forms.

The POI (Points of Impact) are basically the activities you will be doing throughout the week.  There will be a brief description of each activity.  You can change your selections, but keep in mind that the sooner you signup the greater the chance you have at getting your choice.  I encourage everyone to try new things, but only sign up for things you will be willing to do.  (For Example - Don't sign up for climbing if you are deathly afraid of heights.).

Any questions just shoot me an e-mail - oakridge.youth@hotmail.com

Religion or Devotion?

This is a video that I've watched many times.  This is David Platt, the writer of Radical.  I encourage EVERYONE to watch and share this powerful video.  As Christians we have a lot of work to due, and it's going to take sacrificing everything to do it.
